Laurie Short-Cahill

Laurie Short-Cahill is currently the Sales and Marketing Manager with the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott. She works in a B2B sales environment, engaging with clients to help them with their Traveler’s accommodations including Meeting and catering requirements, as well as managing their Social media and marketing. Laurie was awarded Leader of the Year 2016 for her company. Before her current position, she was an Integrated Advertising Consultant with Transcontinental Media for 5 years. Laurie also boasts 9 years of Retail management under her belt. In addition to her awards, She was an ambassador with the St. John’s Board of Trade, serving for two and a half years.

Laurie is also the originator of “Spring Into Spring Cleaning”- A campaign to collect used clothes in Aid of the Iris Kirby House, in which their first year generated over 100 bags of clothing from the community. Additonally she also initated an Annual BBQ event in aid of the Janeway with activities for the kids, a dunk tank, face painting and balloon making.

Laurie is involved with the Junior Achievement program, as an Our Business World Instructor- Teaching fundamental Business basics to Grade 5 and 6’s over a 4 week period. Laurie has also recently become involved with Easter Seals in their Horizons program, offering mock interviews to prepare the participants for the real world.

She has been an active committee member and mentor, inspiring Youth with Miss Achievement NL since 2011 and is currently serving the Girls On The Green Committee in aid of Kids help Phone for 2017.

Laurie is looking forward to her new role with the Chamber, and becoming more involved in The Mount Pearl/Paradise Community.

Dave Halliday
Vice President

Since graduating from Memorial University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, Dave has been working with enterprises of all sizes to help them achieve their marketing goals.

As an Integrated Advertising Consultant with TC Media since 2012, his expertise in customer service, sales, and marketing has allowed him to develop a keen eye for creative and progressive views toward media placement.

Prior to his current position, Dave has worked in telecommunications sales and management for Bell Aliant and has received various awards for his sales performance.

In his spare time, Dave plays and teaches percussion, as well as volunteers with associations he is passionate about. He is proud to sit as the Director of Marketing for the Mount Pearl Paradise Chamber of Commerce and is excited to help impart his proven track record of success upon this thriving organization.

Jillian Hewitt

Jillian Hewitt is an associate lawyer with the law firm William S. Kennedy Law Office. Jillian obtained her International Bachelor of Business Administration from Memorial University in 2010 and graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a Juris Doctor in 2014.

Jillian considers herself so fortunate to have grown up in Mount Pearl and to have had the opportunity to be a part of the warm and growing community for so many years. She hopes to continue to nurture these community relationships onward throughout her professional career.

With the firm, Jillian maintains a varied general practice encompassing a wide range of areas including civil litigation, real estate, family law, criminal law, wills and estates and administrative law.

David Mercer
Past President

David Mercer’s career began in 1998 at McDonald’s in St. John’s, NL. He went from crew person to Store Manager. This fast-paced, customer-driven industry offered a rich learning environment to help him develop a strong diversified skill set. David graduated with honors from Academy Canada Business Administration (Marketing, Receiving a diploma in Human Resources and Accounting.

In 2009 began working in the financial services industry with TD Canada Trust. In 2011, he moved to Reddy Kilowatt Credit Union where he currently serves as a Member Service Representative.

David is an advocate for cooperatives and a staunch believer that co-operative values help grow communities and the economy. In April 2014, he was chosen to present at the Atlantic Credit Union Annual General Meeting which afforded him the opportunity to share his enthusiasm regarding youth involvement in the credit union movement.


Aidan Moores

Aidan started with Metro Business in the Fall of 2012, after working in a similar role with CBDC Nortip for three years and five years with Federal Public Service. Aidan looks forward to working with clients to help them realize their dream of successfully operating their own business. Aidan completed his Bachelor of Commerce (Co-operative) at Memorial University and it was through his involvement in ACE Memorial (now Enactus) and work terms with ACOA, that he realized that small business counseling and support was his passion. Aidan is a past treasurer of the Straits/St. Barbe Chamber of Commerce and is an active volunteer with Junior Achievement.

Brian Johansen

A Missouri native, and by way of North Carolina, Brian Johansen came to St. John’s for school -- and it is here that he has stayed. He holds an M.Sc. in Computational Science from Memorial University of Newfoundland, as well as a certificate in bookkeeping, and he is currently working towards his CPA.

Focusing on accounting, bookkeeping, and all money matters, Brian runs his own company, New Leaf Business Services. With more than a decade in corporate and personal finance, he brings efficiency, skill, and positivity to St. John’s and Mount Pearl local businesses, helping them succeed and grow behind the scenes.

Brian’s love of numbers knows no bounds: He has been an instructor in Memorial’s Department of Mathematics and Statistics, and, in his spare time, he volunteers at CRA, filing tax returns for low income individuals.

Ultimately, at the heart of things, Brian is all about place and community: He also volunteers with the SPCA, helping home our city’s feral cats; and he’s an avid vintner, making craft beers and wines to share among family and friends.

Dwayne Gaulton

Place of Residence: Paradise, NL. Occupation: Commercial Account Manager with BMO Bank of Montreal - Paradise Branch. Education: Business Degree from MUN, Banking Accreditations. I have volunteered for the following organizations Past director with CBS Main Street Association, Vice Chair for Janeway Telethon Fundraising (TD Bank Fundraising Committee) Volunteer with NL Down Syndrome Association, Volunteer CBR Minor Hockey and Volunteer Newfoundland and Labrador Credit Union Charitable Foundation.

Steve Butler, B.Comm (Co-op)
Representative - City Of Mount Pearl

Steve is currently acting as the Economic Development Officer with the City of Mount Pearl. Having worked in 12 years in economic development in a public educational institution, not-for-profit organization, and now municipal government, it is his passion to help develop community and business. Steve is a natural motivator and thrives on taking the leadership role in his workplace. He is a person who can change the social culture of an organization for the better. He can naturally engage people to assist with achieving their professional and personal objectives.

Jennifer Penney
Economic Development Officer - Town of Paradise

Jennifer has over 11 years of economic development experience, working closely with entrepreneurs to plan, start and grow businesses. During that time, she worked collaboratively within a regional environment in the Waterloo Region, built strong relationships with local businesses and organizations, and had a strong connection with the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce, which gave her a unique perspective and understanding of the business community needs. Jennifer has a passion for business development, an eye for detail, and a strong focus on customer service and relationship building. She strives to provide a supportive environment in which to start and grow and is eager to connect with local businesses through her role with the Town of Paradise, as well as the Mount Pearl Paradise Chamber of Commerce. Jennifer is a member of the Economic Developers Association of Newfoundland and Labrador as well as the Economic Developers Association of Canada.


Ken O'Leary
Member Services, Events Coordinator

Ken is a recent graduate of the College of The North Atlantic and holds a diploma in Business Management and Marketing, these skills coupled with Ken's passion for working within the community to create a stronger local marketplace is an asset to the future sucess of the chamber.

Being active in the community is very important to Ken as he is heavily involved with the Mount Pearl Minor Hockey Association where he currently holds the position of Goaltending Technical Director. He understands the importance of investing in the future through creating a positive learning environment both on and off the ice for young athletes.

Ken has worked for the St. John's IceCaps since 2013 in numerous roles and continues to be a valuable member of their Game Operations staff. Ken has represented the IceCaps at numerous community events across the province over the years and is always excited to interact with fans.
